DR. URI MANOR
MICROSCOPIST

Have you ever wondered how scientists learn about the small parts of living creatures?  Dr. Manor’s research and work helps us understand the human body, brain, and more! He is an expert in microscopes and microscopy, runs an imaging lab, and uses the latest microscopic technology to image cells. His official title is: “Director of the Waitt Advanced Biophotonics Core Facility” at the Salk Institute in San Diego.

Dr. Manor is also a trained biologist. He was recently featured in the San Diego Tribune for his work towards curing congenital hearing loss (hearing loss from birth). He believes a cure is within 10 years reach.  Dr. Manor himself was born with profound hearing loss. This came with challenges that often made him feel he was behind his peers. Dr. Manor says:“I feel better about everything by working hard and getting better every day on things that I think are super interesting and important. But I always also make sure to find time to laugh at life.”

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Manor has become a strong advocate for facemasks to protect the wearer and others.
